Valentine's Day Paris Style

Valentine's Day is a much subtler affair here, and until a few days ago it wasn't apparent that the French celebrate it at all. Sweet touches like heart-shaped cheese and special dinner menus are much nicer to look at than plastic chocolate boxes and the garish corporate version of the day that we're all used to. I would have had a few more photos that included chocolate, but once again I was told by a very stern, frustrated shop owner that I was not permitted to take photos. I tried to snap, but I was about 3 seconds away from being chased.

I went to Target yesterday to find a few little elegant candy boxes and what I found was an explosion of stuffed animals, toys, and rows of over-commercialized candy! Ugh!

ooh, heart-shaped cheese. Sounds like my experiences taking photos in chinatown when I was running a webzine. Lots of nasty looks and being yelled out!

heart shaped brie? (or what ever…) oh how wonderful. subtle is nice. I like it. Much better than blaring me in the face with plastic garlands and over marketed tv characters in red nd pink when I walk in the super market. lovely!

i could actually see myself warming up to vday there. heart shaped cheese is much easier to swallow than the $80 teddy bear i saw advertised on tv last night.
