Where Does Water Come From?

That was the question my son asked yesterday. Luckily, my dad had the answer. There's a spring about a mile from my parent's house, and apparently, it's as popular as the local bar on free wing night. For an anonymous donation (usually a dollar or two), you can fill up to 18 one gallon jugs with crystal clear Pennsylvanian water. When I questioned whether or not the water would kill me, my dad informed me that I had been drinking it for years, and he was surprised I didn't know. They reuse supermarket water jugs, so I thought I was drinking Poland Spring. The boys got a kick out of filling the jugs, and I enjoyed explaining the process to my son.

At least no one plied him with the old standy…water is angel tears! I used to get so upset that angels had to be really sad to create all the water on earth. I never thought they could be tears of happiness. I was a strange child!

Mmmm! I remember the first time I drank from a spring directly—I think I was in the 2nd grade. It had such a fresh, almost minty taste. Glad your little one asked the question and glad you showed us the answer!

Growing up we lived beside a fresh spring. Nothing has ever tasted as good as our water did then:)

Thanks for sharing your story!

When we lived out in the country, there was a spring we got our water from… I often wondered about the “safety” factor myself, but there were people always there and some said they had been coming for years and they were still around… so we did it too for about two years. It was SO good!
