Dave Matthews Seduction

It's 1996. You're sporting your fisherman sweater and a no-makeup look. You've just been invited back to the apartment of the cute guy from your postmodern lit class.

You exchange light banter about the nuanced meanings of Pearl Jam's "Don't Call Me Daughter" as you navigate your way through a sea of plastic cup-toting, flannel wearing Nietzche disciples on your way to his room.

The door closes.
He lights a candle.
He casually presses his stereo's play button

Wait! Is that what you think it is? It's the Dave Matthew's Crash Into Me mating call. Again.

Has this happened to you? I'm willing to bet that those of you who attended college in the 90s experienced a similar seduction scene.

If not, what were the romeos' songs of choice in your era?

I was between the Dave Matthews era and the John Mayer "Your Body is a Wonderland" era. I personally think Maroon 5's "Secret" is a pretty hot song too.

That year, the girls always got me with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ27AM3RTv8

Never tried the Dave Matthews trap, though I heard it was effective on girls in turtlenecks, FWIW

I'm obsessed with Dave Matthews Band. They were my first concert in the 90's, I've seen them more than 30 times, and love everything they put out. I can definitely relate!!

I was in college in the early nineties- so probably something like Wicked Game by Chris Isaak. Thanks for making me reminisce!

Sarah! LOL. I am trying to picture Dave slipping on the Star Wars soundtrack. ;)

Rereading my comment I need to clarify that the roommates weren't in the-ahem-same room. They shared a three bedroom apartment-style dorm room.
Just in case your mind went there…

Dave is going to kill me for saying this, but back when we first started dating in college (1996) we'd make out to The Princess Bride soundtrack in his dorm room. His roommates were noisy (thus distracting) and Dave's extensive soundtrack collection proved to be a good wordless white noise. Except the Star Wars and Indiana Jones soundtracks. Those just made me laugh in the context…
