The Ultimate Driving Mix

After my husband hurled a Laurie Berkner CD out the window yesterday, we knew it was time to reclaim the car as a space for adult music. If you have kids and you know Laurie Berkner, (masochists, click that link) you understand why losing that awful cd trumped any reservations he had about littering. That and it was a heat-of-the-moment thing instigated by fighting, whining and screaming.

In light of our newly appointed Laurie Berkner-free zone, and in honor of celebrating all that is great and holy in the music arena, we're now planning the ultimate car cd. Driving music! For adults.

So here's where you come in. What are your favorite songs for the car? The ones you can't help but turn up and sing along to.

Amy – good ones!

Catherine – All Staples! I think Elvis Costello was in our car for three solid years.

I like Mike Doughty as well.

Not Just A …

Journey is a given. ;)

Definitely some Michael Kaeshammer!! Also, I don't go anywhere without Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" on my playlist!

Short Skirt/Long Jacket by Cake. My kid loves it and so do we. We are big Cake fans & they're great loud in the car.

I have to add Depeche Mode and the Violent Femmes to Catherine's list but I love all of her suggestions.

I usual listen to a lot of Simon and Garfunkel driving. Songs like The 59th St Bridge, At the Zoo, Poem on the Underground Wall, Hazy Shade of Winter are all really fun.

Other good songs:
Paulo Nutini, New Shoes
James, Laid
Jason Mraz, Common Pleasure
Steve Miller Band, Swingtown
Tom Petty, American Girl
Elton John, Tiny Dancer
Ben Folds, Bitches Ain't Shit

My list is getting a little random and I could probably just go on forever

Journey, YES!

most cliche car song – Tom Cochrane, Life Is A Highway

This is harder then I thought it might be. In the past driving songs were often very road trip specific. I'm going to have to ponder for a bit.

Jessica, love that song! Way back in 2000 my BFF and I couldn't go anywhere without listening to that song over and over.
