What's Your Favorite Cheese?





I don't know about you, but I am terrible when it comes to remembering a great cheese or wine I've had. I always plan to write down the names/shops etc., but never get around to it.

People ask me what my favorite cheese is, and all I have is a generic answer like goat or brie (depending on the day). I can never give specifics like brand names or shops.

Does this happen to you?

I put together the above cheese plate with the help of a very enthusiastic employee at Whole Foods. I really liked all of them, so I wrote the names on little cards. My hope was that staring at them while I scarfed the cheese would help me remember the names.

Of course, Evan teased me a bit. But days later, I do remember them.

I admit to jogging my memory with the help of a brand new word document I've unimaginatively named "cheese."

Oooh I LOVE Humboltd Fog cheese. Another similar fave is Bucheron :) Mmmmm.

Wine I'm crap at but I do remember my cheese. My favourites include fontina (for melting), raclette (in raclette!), aged gouda, good old brie, a nice baked camembert… Oh, I could go on. And on.

I only remember a few, but otherwise cheese serves no other purpose for me than filling my life with complete and utter joy. I'm a little nuts for Manchego, although that's not French, and I love a good swiss gruyère. Chèvre is a must also. I could keep going.

Shannon – I was admittedly scared of the Humboldt Fog, but the guy behind the counter insisted.

I think I was especially nervous about the vegetable ash strip.

But I loved it!

I just love Sheep's milk gouda. So delicious. Creamy and hard – delicate and flavorful. I will actually eat any kind of cheese – I have recently discovered this.

hands down, Kashkaval, a Bulgarian cheese. I found it in a cheese shop when I lived near Little Italy. I can only find it in Wegmans now that I am a suburbanite.

I am SWOONING – love a cheese course. My favorites are St Andre (an unbelievably creamy French number), Roquefort, Roaring Forties King Island Blue from Tasmania, and 'Edith' (a goat that looks like a brie, with a firm rind and super creamy, ripe middle) from Woodside in South Australia. Must go to the cheesemonger NOW….

I'm the same way except I have yet to forget my ultimate favorite – a triple cream by Cowgirl Creamery! D-I-V-I-N-E!

Fortunately, this was the first cheese I ever introduced my little crumb too, needless to say, she is hooked as well! Now, i have to share!
