Snack Time

Proof Parisians set up charming photo ops L'heure de gouter! Coupla things. First, the top photo is proof that Parisians like to set up charming photo ops for tourists. Go ahead and notice the coordinating flowers, table and strip of paint on the building. Second, is there anything better than the French tradition of le goûter? Le goûter is an afternoon snack usually eaten around 4pm. I mean we Americans snack, but I like the idea of making it a formal daily activity. Kind of like afternoon tea in England. Who's with me? Of course if this idea gains ground, we'll need a refined name. We can't allude to scarfing Cheez-Its while our European friends are taking afternoon tea or enjoying l'heure de goûter.

I used to work in a lab that had tea and cookies every day at 3pm. I loved it.

But would Americans leave work an hour early to enjoy such a simple pleasure of life?

Lindsey – You are so right.

Great idea! Though even if it were established in the US, you know Americans would just overeat and ruiin their dinner!

love this idea – i mean i usually snack at work in the afternoon, but i think making it more a more formal occasion would limit it to just that time.

What would be a stylish American snack we could have in the afternoon? All I can think of right now is beer and nuts, but that doesn't sound too classy. I live in WI, so I'm thinking beer and cheese!
