of Marcus Aurelius
Illustrated by Evan Robertson

Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius kept a journal between 161 and 180 AD. They were his own thoughts, provocations, and epiphanies on how he could become the most virtuous man he could be. He never intended it for publication or a general readership, and yet it has become a philosophical touchstone.
Our edition combines excerpts from Aurelius' timeless philosophical masterpiece with provocative illustrations and bold typography for a unique, immersive reading experience. Where other hyper-intellectual philosophers spin their wheels about truth and clutch their pearls about meaning, Aurelius just gets the job done
His journal has no official title, so we decided on "The Meditations," one of several titles commonly assigned to the collection. These writings take the form of quotations varying in length from one sentence to long paragraphs.
