Aurelius "Sands"

"How quickly all things are dissolved and disappear." - Marcus Aurelius

In this illustration, I latched on to the subject of an hourglass for the reasons above, and wanted to utilize the upper and lower bells to create a contrast between the bustle of our time-bound lives, and the infinite unbounded landscape beyond in all directions. The dunes resemble an ocean and blend into the shape of a serpent waiting in the bottom bell.
